Atlanta police are investigating the possible heroin overdoses of three men found lying on sidewalks in the Little Five Points area Wednesday night. One of the men later died at a local hospital, according to police.

An officer on patrol about 9:45 p.m. first noticed Derek Lord and Kevin White lying on the ground near a bench in a park along Euclid Avenue, according to an Atlanta police incident report obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Lord was “folded into an awkward position and did not appear to be sleeping,” the officer wrote in the report, adding that he was “breathing quickly and heavily.”

White was lying nearby, “in a more sleeping position,” according to the report.

The officer requested an ambulance, then noticed another man, Ronnie Neal, lying on the sidewalk on the other side of the park along Moreland Avenue.

“I walked over to him and he was unresponsive to my voice, my flashlight and shaking,” the officer reported. “All three appeared to possibly be affected by a heroin overdose.”

White was taken to Atlanta Medical Center, where he later died. The others were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital.

According to the report, Neal became responsive at the scene, and Lord “awoke after leaving the scene.”
