A Flowery Branch man was shot and killed Christmas morning and his brother was arrested and charged with murder, Hall County sheriff’s deputies said.
Alan Scott Fyfe, 54, was found lying mortally wounded in the backyard of a residence in the 6400 block of River Hill Drive, sheriff’s spokesman Mark Mitchell said. Fyfe was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
His brother, Mark Alan Fyfe, 52, was arrested after a standoff with deputies.
The shooting was witnessed by the suspect’s son, Kevin, who called 911 around 9:30 a.m. but hung up without talking, Mitchell said.
Mark Fyfe, who was holed up inside the residence with his son, refused to open the door to deputies inquiring who had made the 911 call. The Hall County SWAT team was called in and negotiated his surrender without incident, Mitchell said.
Mark Fyfe, who is being held without bond in the Hall County Jail, was charged with murder, three counts of obstructing an officer and one count of interfering with government property, Mitchell said. Kevin Fyfe, 21, was not charged.
The suspect served a one-year prison sentence in 1980 for burglary, according to public documents, which show no record of any violent crimes.
The shooting remains under investigation; deputies have not disclosed an alleged motive.
