A Louisiana man was arrested in Coweta County after deputies said he led them on a 150-mph interstate chase while three children were in his car.

Bryan Hampton, 29, faces multiple charges, including reckless driving, in connection with the high-speed chase, the Coweta sheriff’s office said in a statement.

The incident began Sunday when the Palmetto Police Department put out a notice telling other agencies to look out for a purple Dodge Charger. The vehicle had been spotted drag racing in the southbound lanes of I-85, the statement said.

A Coweta deputy on patrol near mile marker 41 saw the Charger traveling 100 mph. When the deputy tried to pull over the car, the driver, later identified as Hampton, sped to 150 mph and began switching lanes, authorities said.

Deputies radioed Grantville police to alert them of the chase, and one of their officers was able to box in the Charger. Hampton was taken into custody at the scene.

Following the arrest, police learned Hampton’s fiancee and three children were inside the car. At least one of the children was not wearing a seat belt at the time, the Coweta sheriff’s office said.

Hampton was taken to the Coweta jail. In addition to reckless driving, he is charged with speeding, fleeing or attempting to elude, and four counts of reckless conduct.
