A Griffin man accidentally shot and killed an acquaintance Wednesday afternoon, Henry County police said.

Ajai Darquez Allen, 24, was arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter, Henry County police spokesman Capt. Joey Smith said Thursday in a statement.

Police said Allen was holding a handgun when it went off in a home in the 3900 block of Jodeco Road, Smith said.

The bullet struck 28-year-old Matthew Robert Pineda of Stockbridge. Pineda was pronounced dead at the scene, which is near McDonough.

Allen was taken to the Henry County Jail and released on a $5,000 bond, according to jail records.
