A Mableton man is being held on murder charges, accused of killing a father Friday in front of the victim’s 2-year-old son and the child’s mother.

Jimmy Tate Jr. is accused of fatally shooting Jonas Douze Sr. while Douze was sitting in a vehicle speaking with his child’s mother as the 2-year-old was in the back seat.

Douze was shot in the head about 2 p.m. Friday at 2560 West Point Dr. in College Park. Douze, 57, was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

According to College Park police, Tate, 38, drove up to the vehicle, got out and pulled a gun on the mother, his estranged wife. He then opened the door and fired several rounds at Douze, striking him once, police said. The mother and child were unharmed.

Tate later turned himself in to College Park police after being contacted by detectives.
