Lucky 7: Last big jackpot winners

Since 2007 there have been seven huge lottery jackpots in the United States.

Two tickets from Georgia and New Jersey shared what was then the largest jackpot in U.S. history. The winners were a Cape May County, New Jersey couple, Elaine and Harold “Barry” Messner, and a truck driver from northwest Georgia, Eddie Nabors of Rocky Face, about 90 miles north of Atlanta. Nabors took the lump sum payout of $116.4 million for his share of the $390 million Mega Millions prize.

Two tickets from Idaho and Washington state split the $380 million jackpot. Jim and Carolyn McCullar from Ephrata, Wash., were the first to claim their $190 million share for matching all six numbers (4, 8, 15, 25, 47 and Mega Ball 42). The second winner was a single mother of two daughters, Holly Lahti of Idaho Falls, Idaho.

The largest lottery jackpot in U.S. history was claimed by three winning tickets in Kansas, Illinois and Maryland. The winners included three Maryland public school employees - a woman in her 20s, another in her 50s, and a man in his 40s - who claimed $34.99 million each. A retired couple from Red Bud, Ill., Merle and Patricia Butler, claimed $111 million after taxes. The Kansas winner remains unknown as the state allows lottery winners to remain anonymous.

Two tickets from Arizona and Missouri claimed a nearly $600 million Powerball prize. The milestone win was claimed by Matthew Good of Phoenix and a pair of high school sweethearts from Dearborn, Mo., Mark and Cindy Hill.

Less than three months after the record Powerball in May 2013, three tickets split a record $448 million Powerball jackpot. Among the winners were 16 Ocean County, N.J., public employees, who work in the Vehicle Services department.
