Looking for a new furry friend to cure those post-Thanksgiving blues, metro Atlanta?

Thanks to online retailer Zappos and Best Friends Animal Society, you can adopt a dog or cat for free at several metro Atlanta rescue groups. But get a move on — the offer ends today.

Zappos is orchestrating the effort — which started Friday — in hopes of spurring the adoption of 9,000 dogs and cats, which is the same number they say are killed each day in America's shelters.

Metro Atlanta locations where Zappos will cover adoption fees are listed below. Check each rescue's website for hours of operation.

The latter posted on Facebook on Sunday that 43 dogs had already been adopted since the program started.

Wow! 43 dogs and cats have already headed home for the holidays as part of our long weekend of waived adoption fees. ...
