Police still are investigating the assault of a 90-year-old Newnan woman in her home.

She was attacked either Sunday or Monday, police told the Times-Herald newspaper. A friend who checks on the woman daily said she was fine on Sunday but found her bleeding and incoherent on the bedroom floor Monday morning.

The woman had injuries on her face and was bleeding elsewhere, the Times-Herald said. According to a news release, Newnan police said she had been beaten and assaulted with a sharp object.

She was taken to Piedmont Newnan Hospital. She was later released and is staying with family, the newspaper said.

Newnan police are unsure whether she was attacked by one or more people. They also do not have a motive at this time.
