A worker died Thursday afternoon after being trapped under a piece of machinery at a Forsyth County water plant.
The man, whose name has not been released, was not a county employee but worked for a sub-contractor at the plant on Antioch Road, Capt. Jason Shivers with the Forsyth County fire department told the AJC. Construction is under way to expand the plant, Shivers said.
Firefighters were dispatched to the plant around 1:30 p.m., Shivers said. Once there, it was difficult to make contact with the middle-aged man, who apparently was trapped by the machine when it rolled over.
"He was underneath a big piece of heavy equipment, kind of like a forklift," Shivers said. "He was completely under the machine."
Rescue workers were quickly able to extricate the man, who did not survive, Shivers said.
The county released a statement Thursday evening.
"Forsyth County is saddened by the tragic accident and loss. We extend our sincerest sympathy to the victims family, friends and co-workers," the statement reads.
The sheriff's office and OHSA are investigating the incident.
