A man working on a sign outside a Fairburn grocery store fell about 30 feet Wednesday afternoon and was flown to the hospital with “pretty serious” injuries, authorities said.

Fairburn police Sgt. Anthony Bazydlo said the incident happened outside the Food Depot at 80 West Broad St. The 42-year-old worker was in a “truck with an extendable arm” when he fell to the concrete below.

What caused him to fall was not clear. There was a second worker on scene, Bazydlo said, but the injured man was operating the truck himself.

Bazydlo did not have specific information about the man’s injuries. Late Wednesday afternoon, he was at Atlanta Medical Center in “serious condition.”
