A 29-year-old man is a suspect in a violent carjacking attempt that took place in Woodstock earlier this month, police said.
Kenneth Bethea Jr. allegedly fired a shot in the air and used a gun to break the window in his victims’ car Feb. 1 at The Heights at Towne Lake apartments, Channel 2 Action News reported.
When Bethea tried to get in the car, the driver escaped by driving away, police said.
“I think it’s crazy because I feel like this is actually a pretty safe neighborhood and so I feel like I haven’t felt worried or anything,” neighbor Riley Parscale told the news station.

Bethea is wanted on other charges elsewhere and police are actively looking for him.
Police told Channel 2 Bethea may have known one of the carjacking victims and possibly chose them for a reason, but residents aren’t taking any chances.
“I know now to look out and keep my doors locked and keep my car in the garage,” neighbor Kimberley Thomas said.
Police said Bethea should be considered armed and dangerous.
