Woodstock names new parks chief

A Marietta parks executive will be heading up I-575 into Cherokee County later this month after being named the new parks and recreation director for the city of Woodstock.
Michael Huffstetler, superintendent of parks and recreation services for Marietta since 2017, was hired by Woodstock after an extensive search and will assume his new job responsibilities June 26, according to a Woodstock city announcement.
During his two years in Marietta, Huffstetler helped manage a $3.5 million general fund budget and $25 million parks bond and the launch of the new Franklin Gateway Sports Complex and Elizabeth Porter Park. He previously was supervisory recreation specialist with the Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay Morale, Welfare and Recreation site on Allatoona Lake, and community facility manager with the Atlanta Department of Parks and Recreation.
He has a master’s in recreation administration from George Williams College of Aurora University in Williams Bay, Wis., and a bachelor’s in sport and leisure management from East Tennessee State University; and a certificate in hospitality leadership from A.B.
