A woman is recovering from minor injuries after getting trapped in a trash chute at a Dunwoody apartment building Sunday morning.

Amanda Still, 19, dropped her cell phone into the building's trash chute as she threw away some trash just before 6 a.m. at the Gables Metropolitan apartments on Madison Drive, according to Dunwoody police.

When Still reached in to retrieve the phone, she fell head first and was stuck between the second and first floors, the woman told Channel 2 Action News on Monday.

"If I would have been by myself, I would have died," a hoarse Still told Channel 2. A friend who was with Still called 911, and police and firefighters removed the trash compactor to rescue the young woman.

Garbage lodged in a trash compactor kept the woman from falling all the way into the ground-level compactor. Still was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

She told Channel 2 that her biggest concern is that she would be sued for the damage to the trash compactor her rescue caused.

However, an apartment spokesperson said they're just happy Amanda wasn't seriously injured, and a lawsuit hasn't crossed their minds, according to Channel 2.

Still never got her phone back, but says she's thankful she made it out. She told Channel 2 she has a meeting with apartment management to find out what happens next.
