A woman known in her College Park neighborhood as "Granny" was hit by a tractor-trailer Wednesday night, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Lois Johnson, 77, is on life support at Grady Memorial Hospital, the report said.

Johnson was crossing Virginia Avenue near Harrison Road when she was struck, investigators told Channel 2. She was jaywalking, they said. The truck was making a left turn and the left bumper hit Johnson before she was run over, the report said.

Witnesses told police that the driver did not stop, but authorities tracked him down and he returned to the scene after receiving a cell phone call, Channel 2 said. The driver did not know he had hit Johnson, the report said.
