A suspect was arrested Thursday morning in the death of a 30-year-old mother of two found dead Wednesday afternoon in southwest Atlanta.

Nicholas Wilson, 21, was taken into custody in the same apartment complex where Cassandra James was found dead.

James was discovered Wednesday afternoon in her apartment in the bathtub with a bandanna over her face, Atlanta Police Homicide Detective Lt. Keith Meadows said.

James' friend came to the Allen Hills apartment complex on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive looking for her, police said.

The friend got the apartment manager to let her into the building, and that's when they found James' body. Police were called to the scene just after 3 p.m.

Early Wednesday evening, crowds of neighbors stood and watched as members of the medical examiner's staff rolled a stretcher carrying the body down a steep hill.

The woman had reported some domestic disputes from the apartment to apartment managers, police said. And at least one incident was reported to police in November.

Meadows said James had some kind of trauma to her neck area, but it was unclear if it was a gunshot wound as was previously reported.

Police are waiting for a medical examiner's report to determine the cause of death.

The investigation is ongoing.
