Man shot then gets arrested at hospital on drug charge

A man who was shot early Sunday found himself arrested on a drug charge.

Officers responded around 4 a.m. to the scene in the 1900 block of Piedmont Circle, where they found a man who appeared to have been shot twice in the chest and once in the leg, Atlanta police spokesman Officer John Chafee said.

The wounded man was located behind the establishment, but the preliminary investigation indicates the shooting may have happened inside, Chafee said. Police could not find any witnesses willing to talk.

The man shot, identified as 36-year-old Murjani Yearwood, also was uncooperative with police, Chafee said.

Yearwood was transported in stable condition to Grady Memorial Hospital, where a small bag was marijuana was found in his possession while hospital staff members were attempting to treat him, police said.

He was taken into custody and charged with drug possession.
