A woman was critically injured early Friday in a residential fire on Cardinal Drive in Woodstock, authorities said.

Shortly before 1 a.m., Cherokee County fire, Woodstock fire and Woodstock police found light smoke coming from the house, Woodstock spokeswoman Brittany Duncan said.

Firefighters learned a woman was trapped and found her in a back bedroom, Duncan said. She was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where she was listed in critical condition.

Four other people were assisted from the house, and two were taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital for treatment.

Four dogs also were removed, and Cherokee marshals took them for treatment.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
