Woman charged in brother's northwest Atlanta murder

Atlanta police have arrested a woman and charged her with stabbing her brother to death.

Charlene Barber, 44, was captured without incident Sunday and charged with the murder of Kirby Devereaux, said officer Kim Jones, a spokeswoman with the Atlanta Police Department.

Police said the two had been arguing in a house in the 400 block of Illinois Avenue in northwest Atlanta. An uncle who was there heard a door slam. When he investigated, he found Devereaux, 36, on the sofa, with a stab wound to the chest, Jones said.

An ambulance rushed Devereaux to Grady Memorial Hospital, but he died of his injuries, Jones said.

Barber was seen walking away from the house, and was later arrested by police and taken to the Fulton County Jail.
