Police say a woman and her son who were injured Monday in a wreck near Dacula were not wearing seat belts.

The woman, identified Tuesday as Graciela Salmeron, 37, of Sweet Mill Lane in Lawrenceville, was driving a 2004 Honda Odyssey minivan on Alcovy Forest Drive around 8:30 a.m. when her car left the roadway on a curve near Bramlett Shoals Road and struck a tree, Gwinnett County police said.

Salmeron and her 5-year-old son, Benjamin Salmeron, were trapped in the wreckage. Both were removed by emergency crews and transported to local hospitals, said Cpl. Edwin Ritter, Gwinnett police spokesman.

The boy was taken to Egleston at Emory with minor injuries, according to a police incident report obtained by the AJC. His mother was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville, where she remained in the intensive care unit Tuesday.
