Wieland takes over Woodstock Downtown

John Wieland Homes and Neighborhoods and First Cherokee State Bank have taken over the development of the award-winning smart-growth neighborhood Woodstock Downtown.

Woodstock Downtown brought multistory condos and retail space, new restaurants, houses and townhomes to the little turn-of-the-century town during Cherokee County’s growth years. Hedgewood Properties, the original developer, ran into financial problems when the housing bubble burst, and half of about 200 home lots remain undeveloped.

Wieland has taken housing permits to build three model homes on the site and has opened a sales center. Prices are expected to be in the $200,000 range. Some of the original homes in the development cost more than half a million dollars.
