It will be another hot weekend of road construction in metro Atlanta, with temperatures in the mid 90s and only a slight chance of pop-up afternoon thunderstorms.

Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton said that with the humidity, those readings in the 90s will feel more like 99 to 103 degrees.

Portions of east Georgia, from Athens and Eatonton eastward, are under a heat advisory through 8 p.m. Saturday for heat indices of 105 to 107 degrees.

Minton put the chance for rain across metro Atlanta at 20 percent Friday and Saturday, increasing slightly to 30 percent on Sunday.

Looking into the early part of next week, Minton is calling for highs of 92 on Monday and 94 on Tuesday, with a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms each day.

Highs on Thursday included 92 at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and 93 in Marietta. Afternoon thunderstorms dumped as much as 1.09 inches in Johns Creek, .80 inch in Dallas and .54 inch in Dunwoody, but many areas of metro Atlanta recorded no rain.

In Gwinnett County, lightning was blamed for sparking a 7:30 p.m. fire that damaged a home on Allison Drive in Buford. No injuries were reported.

If the rain holds off, motorists can expect to find traffic jams on several metro interstates due to weekend repaving.

In DeKalb County, the two left lanes of I-285 eastbound will be closed between Ashford Dunwoody and Chamblee Tucker roads, beginning at 9 p.m. Friday and continuing through 5 a.m. on Monday.

There will be three westbound lanes of the top-end Perimeter blocked during that same time frame and in the same area, along with the ramp from I-285 westbound to Peachtree Industrial Boulevard.

Also in DeKalb, the three right lanes of I-20 will be blocked in each direction between I-285 and Columbia Drive.

In Roswell, the ramp from Ga. 400 southbound to Holcomb Bridge Road will be blocked from 9 p.m. Friday until 3 p.m. on Sunday.

On the south side, numerous lane closures are planned throughout the weekend on I-75 and the Downtown Connector between I-285 and University Avenue.
