Food fans headed to Midtown for this weekend's Taste of Atlanta festival might get a little wet, but at least they won't get a taste of the nasty traffic they might have encountered from repaving on the Downtown Connector.

The state Department of Transportation announced late Friday morning that they were postponing work this weekend due to a forecast that calls for a 60 percent chance of rain on Saturday and a 30 percent chance of showers on Sunday.

The state Department of Transportation had hoped to complete the resurfacing work related to the 14th Street Bridge project by the end of September, but wet weather forced the cancellation of several weekend work sessions.

The DOT is also racing cooler weather to complete the repaving project.

"We cannot lay the top coat of asphalt when temperatures are below 60 degrees or it is raining," said Mickey McGee, the DOT's metro Atlanta construction engineer.

The annual Taste of Atlanta will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday at Tech Square in Midtown.
