Water service has been restored to a portion of Buckhead after a line was severed, but the city will shut off service again Saturday morning to repair a second leak that was discovered.
A contractor cut a 16-inch water main Thursday afternoon, forcing the water to be turned off in the Buckhead area, the Department of Watershed Management told the AJC.
The line was damaged near the intersection of Piedmont and East Wesley roads, said Janet Ward, spokeswoman for the utility.
It is not known how many customers were affected, Ward said.
Ward said Friday morning that the initial rupture had been repaired and service restored to customers, but she said a second rupture had been found, and crews planned to turn the water off at 9 a.m. on Saturday to repair that leak.
She said businesses and homes along the west side of Piedmont Road between Pharr Road and Sidney Marcus Boulevard would be affected by Saturday's outage, which could last into the early afternoon.
