Volunteers sought for Lanier’s 30th ‘Shore Sweep’

The Lake Lanier Association observes the 30th anniversary of “Shore Sweep” with an expected 1,000 volunteers turning out 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 15, to scour the shoreline of the lake for trash and debris.

People in boats will collect refuse and bring it to designated drop-off points. Between 30 and 50 tons of trash are anticipated.

Participants are asked to report to one of 11 locations: the Bald Ridge, Aqualand, Gainesville and Port Royale marinas; Balus Creek and Big Creek boat ramps; and Lanier Islands, Don Carter, Gwinnett, Longwood and War Hill parks.

Forsyth County, in a related announcement, said Keep Forsyth County Beautiful, the city of Cumming and the Lake Lanier Association are seeking volunteers for the Shore Sweep/Rivers Alive cleanup. KFCB will work out of the Bald Ridge and Port Royale marinas.
