The City of Atlanta and Fulton and DeKalb counties need volunteers for a street count of the homeless, which is mandated by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and conducted every other year by the Metro Atlanta-Tri-Jurisdictional Collaborative.

Volunteers, dubbed enumerators, will gather at designated meeting spots on Jan. 25 at 11:30 p.m. and do the counting the following morning from 1 to 4 a.m. Working in teams of two to three with an experienced guide, enumerators will tally people sleeping in parks, on sidewalks, in encampments and under bridges, as well as those in shelters and transitional housing. For more information, call 404-639-9933, ext. 323.
