Chris Steele was injured while performing a familiar stunt involving 13 swords, he told Channel 2 Action News.

A sword-swallowing stunt at a Halloween event at the Clermont Lounge went wrong, sending a veteran performer to the hospital with serious injuries.

Chris Steele, who performs under the stage name Captain Steele, had successfully executed the same stunt many times in local shows and charity events over the last decade, he told Channel 2 Action News.

He said he always warns audiences the trick, which involves sticking 13 swords down his throat at once and twisting them, is real — and very dangerous.

“You say it all the time,” he told the news station from his hospital bed in Cobb County. “You know the possibility is out there, and then when it happens you know how dangerous and bad it could be.”

Steele was performing at the infamous Atlanta night club last Thursday when the 13 swords punctured his throat and chest cavity, according to friends who started a GoFundMe page for Steele's recovery.

It landed him in the ICU, Channel 2 reported.

He said the possibility of injury is “our biggest fear in our industry."

While the swords missed Steele’s vital organs, he is recovering from internal bleeding, according to friends.

The GoFundMe campaign has raised more than $4,000 of its $50,000 goal as of Thursday morning.
