David Morgan, a former University System of Georgia employee, will serve as the system's interim chief academic officer, officials announced Wednesday.

Morgan, who left the system in 2001, held various positions in the academic and fiscal affairs departments.

The system's previous chief academic officer, Susan Herbst, left to become president of the University of Connecticut.

Hank Huckaby, who becomes chancellor July 1, has said one of his first priorities will be to hire a new chief academic officer.
