Students who applied for an early decision to the University of Georgia can go online after 4:30 p.m. today to see if they were admitted, college admissions officers said. Students can learn their status at www.admissions.uga.edu.
Old-fashioned decision letters are scheduled to arrive in the mail next week.
About 10,600 students submitted applications by the Oct. 15 early action deadline and about 6,000 were admitted, according to UGA. Early action admissions decisions are based solely on academics.
Students not admitted through early action will be asked to submit additional information by Jan. 15 -- the application deadline for next year's freshman class. When admissions officers review the regular pool of applicants they consider grades and other factors, such as extra-curricular activities and volunteer work.
About half the students who were deferred last year were admitted during the regular admissions pool, said Nancy McDuff, associate vice president for admissions and enrollment management.
McDuff said that the college will receive between 17,000 and 18,000 total applications for the incoming class, with a target enrollment of 4,800 new first-year students entering this summer or fall and another 200 in spring 2011. About half the students admitted to UGA decide to enroll.
