Two killed in Gwinnett County head-on crash
The names of the two people killed in a multi-vehicle crash on Beaver Ruin Road Saturday night are being withheld as Norcross police continue to try and find their next of kin, Capt. Brian Harr said.
The accident, which happened on Beaver Ruin Road at Beaver Falls Drive in Norcross, remains under investigation, and no charges have been filed at this point, Harr said.
According to Lt. Eric Eberly with the Gwinnett County Fire Department, one of the first responders to the accident, one car clipped another one and then slammed head on into a Gwinnett County Transit shuttle bus.
Two people were in the red Pontiac Firebird that slammed into the transit van around 9:16 p.m. One person died on the scene and the other was trapped and required CPR before being taken to the hospital, where the patient died. The transit van driver was uninjured and there were no passengers on board.
Prior to the accident, a Gwinnett County officer ran the tag of the Firebird on Mitchell Road and attempted to pull it over for suspicious activity, Norcross police Capt. Brian Harr told the AJC on Sunday. The car slowed down, then took off, he said.
Though the officer attempted to keep the car in sight, "it was not an active pursuit," Harr said.
After the Firebird turned onto a side street, the accident occurred, he said. The officer activated his emergency lights when he came upon the scene, Harr said.
