Two fired after school bus incident
A March 4 incident involving two Fulton County school system employees and a 10-year-old kid with autism has resulted in the two losing their jobs and one facing criminal charges.
And it appears to have all been caught on tape.
Video obtained by WSB-TV shows Betty Burden, the bus aide, grabbing and holding the little boy in a headlock.
According to the report, Burden told the boy’s mother he had been involved in an altercation on bus #411.
Jonah Griffin, the 10-year-old, has autism, ADHD and is developmentally delayed. He suffered bruises on his face and swollen eyes.
The bus driver, Elmira Dixon, is seen covering the camera up after saying something to Burden.
Fulton County School spokeswoman, Allison Toller told the AJC once they were informed by the parent, they immediately launched an investigation involving human resources, social work, and school police.
"Both employees were terminated and charges were filed," she said. "Protocols are in place and they were not followed."
Burden faces battery charges.
According to Toller, Burden has been employed with the Fulton County school system since February 2008 and assigned to the same bus for the duration of her employment.
Dixon has been employed with the system since December 1999.
