Two brothers were killed and a woman critically injured Sunday in a head-on collision near Athens, police said.

Athens-Clarke County police spokeswoman Hilda Sorrow said the wreck happened about 5:15 p.m. on U.S. 29 in Clarke County.

She said a northbound 1996 Mitsubishi Galant driven by Barry Lynn Dailey crossed the median and struck a 2009 Honda Accord head-on. After the impact, the Mitsubishi caught fire, Sorrow said.

Dailey, 46, of Winterville, and his passenger, brother Bud Eugene Dailey, 51, of Athens, both died at the scene.

The Honda driver, Gaydell Edwards Kesler, 66, of Hull, was in critical condition at Athens Regional Medical Center. Her passengers, Shirley Inez Rogers, 60, of Hull and Allie Marie Faulkner, 10, of Hull, were taken to Athens Regional  for treatment.
