A tree fell on a house in northeast Atlanta Wednesday morning, trapping an 88-year-old woman in her bedroom under insulation and sheetrock.

About 5 a.m. Wednesday, Oliver Surry was asleep when “a loud noise on the backside of the house” in the 200 block of Martha Avenue jolted him.

“I got up and looked in my grandmama’s bedroom,” he told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “She was up under a lot of insulation and sheetrock.”

Liela Grier, Surry’s grandmother, was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital with a “little gash over her eye and a little swelling,” he said.

Two rooms received damage, Surry said.

“I know it’s an old tree,” he said. “Never thought … that would happen.”
