Four days after Tropical Storm Irma hit metro Atlanta, there are more Georgia Power customers without power in DeKalb County than anywhere else in the state.
That's according to the electric utility's outage map, which showed about 11 a.m. that there were more than 23,000 DeKalb customers in the dark. That's about a sixth of the company's statewide outages.
A spokeswoman with Georgia EMC said it does not keep outage statistics by county.
At the storm's worst in DeKalb, about 170,000 of Georgia Power's 317,000 customers lost power. Just Wednesday afternoon, DeKalb had 60,000 without power.
In Glynn County, which started letting residents back into the coastal community at 8 a.m. Thursday, there were about 18,000 of its 41,000 customers without electricity.
DeKalb announced Wednesday that it has asked the federal government for assistance and money to help clean up after being the hardest hit in metro Atlanta.
The DeKalb school district decided to stay closed Thursday, using its fourth inclement weather day built into the calendar.
