Q: I read that Alpharetta purchased the right-of-way that would allow the opening of Westside Parkway between Old Milton Parkway and Webb Bridge Road. When will this road be opened?
—Bob Routier, Johns Creek
A: Construction bids for the Westside Parkway extension are due to the city by mid-March. Pete Sewczwicz, Alpharetta's director of engineering and public works, told Q&A on the News that the city plans to move quickly in selecting a company, and construction could start in April. The work is expected to take 30 to 45 days, which means early June is possible for opening. "We're not dillydallying. We want this thing open as fast as humanly possible," he said. "I want drivers on that road." Westside Parkway will provide north-south connectivity from Windward Parkway in Alpharetta to Holcomb Bridge Road in Roswell. The city recently acquired the right-of-way along the section of Westside Parkway that is located just north of Old Milton Parkway. The project is a partnership between the city and the North Fulton Community Improvement District.
Q: Oscars were given to winners in the field of documentaries and also for short films. I have never seen any of these types of films advertised at theaters or on TV. Where does one go to see these films?
—James Lee, Decatur
A: These showings are among the options for seeing the Oscar-recognized films. The Midtown Art Cinema is currently showing all five Academy Award nominees in the category of Best Live Action Short Film and all five nominees for Best Animated Short Film. HBO produced and will air the Academy Award winning documentary short film "Saving Face" several times this month, beginning at 8:30 p.m. March 8. "Undefeated," which won the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature, is being released gradually in mainstream theaters across the country.
