A 16-year-old boy sustained minor injuries Tuesday night and a house sustained major damage when a car crashed into it in Cobb County, authorities said.

The incident happened about 8 p.m. on the 300 block of Branford Way, a residential area off Bells Ferry Road near Kennesaw.

A 51-year-old woman was backing a car in the driveway of her home, and her teenage son had gotten out of the car to guide her in, according to Firefighter Denell Boyd, spokeswoman for the Cobb County Fire Department.

"When he got out, she bumped him, and it frightened her and she hit the gas instead of the brake," Boyd said. "She must have slammed on it, too, because she was all the way back into the house across the street -- just the hood was sticking out."

When firefighters arrived, they found the car through the bay window of the house at 320 Branford and the female driver still inside, Boyd said. The woman was able to climb out.

The female motorist was not hurt, and no one was home in the house that got hit, said Cobb County police spokesman Mike Bowman. The teen sustained abrasions when he fell.

The youth was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta for observation, Boyd said.

Firefighters shut off all utilities to the damaged house, and it was not known Tuesday night if the dwelling was structurally safe to enter. "One wall of the house was bowed out. She hit it hard," Boyd said.

The investigation was continuing Tuesday night.
