The ‘Water Tower’ climbing structure in Duluth’s Taylor Park has exceeded its life expectancy. While staff is able to maintain the wooden train cars, the water tower is not repairable. Based on staff recommendations, the Duluth City Council voted recently to approve a preliminary quote of $29,136 for demolition of the existing play structure, and replacement with a powder coated steel structure.

The new water tower structure is a custom-made unit that is not available through local playground companies. Henderson Recreational Equipment designed the original water tower play structure and is the sole source for replacement. 2009 SPLOST funds not to exceed $33,000 will pay for the contract to include demolition, replacement, site prep and installation of the new playground equipment. The replacement should be completed within 60 days.
