After being shut down by an overturned tanker truck for about three hours Friday afternoon, the northbound lanes of the Downtown Connector reopened about 4:15 p.m.

The lanes were shut down just south of Langford Parkway shortly after 1 p.m. Georgia State Patrol Motor Carrier Compliance officers responded to the scene and reported that the truck was hauling 4,400 gallons of aluminum sulfate.

No one was injured in the accident, authorities said.

Images from the scene by Channel 2 Action News showed crews working to upright a General Chemical tanker trunk as police directed motorists to make U-turns and go back south in the HOV lane to get away from the traffic snarl.

Georgia Department of Transportation officials said the chemical had been leaking at a rate on a gallon a minute, and as of 2:45 p.m., 75 gallons had leaked out.

Earlier in the afternoon, it was feared that the wreck could affect traffic heading to Friday night's Atlanta Braves game, which begins at 7:35 p.m., but Channel 2 reported traffic returning to the normal Friday afternoon crush within an hour after the Connector reopened.
