Suwanee is unleashing a new mascot Saturday at the Suwanee Day festival.

The city’s 27th annual celebration is expected to attract 40,000 guests and 50 soldiers with the U.S. Army 2-69 Armor Battalion. As part of the festivities at Town Center Park, the city also is introducing Parker the Dog.

Parker, the city's first mascot, represents the warm and fuzzy side of Suwanee, city spokeswoman Lynne DeWilde said. "The goal is to put a friendly face on the city on Suwanee, particularly to younger audiences," she said.

Suwanee Day begins at 10 a.m. with a parade up Buford Highway and down Main Street. The festival ends about 10 p.m. with a fireworks display. In between, festival-goers can enjoy shopping at arts and crafts booths, sampling festival food, watching performers and bouncing on inflatable rides.

Admission to Suwanee Day is free. For more information, go to www.suwaneeday.com.
