The Suwanee Police Department has received numerous calls from citizens who have received phone calls from someone claiming to be the Suwanee police. The caller warns the resident they have an outstanding citation that must be paid immediately to avoid arrest. This is a scam that resurfaces periodically.

Criminals pretend to be someone the public trusts like a government official, a family member, a charity, or utility. Often caller ID information has been manipulated to make it appear the call is very real. Citizens should never make a payment over the phone to a call they did not initiate.

Never give out personal or financial information, including credit card numbers, in response to an unexpected text, a phone call, or email. If someone calls asking for money or personal information, hang up.
