A man was in stable condition Monday after being shot in the hip by an Atlanta police officer.
APD spokesman Sgt. Curtis Davenport said the shooting happened in the 500 block of Paines Avenue near North Avenue.
Homicide Commander Paul Guerrucci said police received a call about 11:30 a.m. about a man walking down the street with a weapon.
Guerrucci said officers found the suspect, who was armed with a shotgun, and "during their investigation shots were fired and the individual that was armed with the shotgun was shot at least once in the left hip." He said the suspect was taken to a hospital in stable condition. The shotgun, he said, was loaded but he declined to say if the suspect fired at officers.
One of the officers "sustained minor injuries" in the incident, Guerrucci said, but he declined to say how the officer was injured.
There were no other immediate details available.
