A suspect was shot Thursday morning by a police officer investigating reports of a suspicious person at a vacant house in south Fulton County.

Fulton police spokesman Scott McBride told the AJC that the incident happened about 9 a.m. at a home on Jerome Road, just south of College Park off Old National Highway.

“The officers entered the vacant house, searched it carefully and located the suspect hiding inside one of the rooms,” McBride said.

At that point, the suspect was shot once by one of the officers.  McBride did not know what happened inside the house that led to the shooting.

“All I know is that the suspect was shot once, and taken to Grady Memorial Hospital where he is in treatment at this time,” McBride said. The suspect’s condition was not immediately available.

McBride said the officer who shot the suspect has been placed on administrative leave, a routine action in officer-involved shootings.

The incident was the second officer-involved shooting this week in metro Atlanta.

Early Tuesday, an 18-year-old home invasion suspect was shot and killed by a Marietta officer at a Franklin Road apartment complex. Two other suspects, ages 19 and 21, were taken into custody and charged with felony murder, aggravated assault, armed robbery, kidnapping, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, false imprisonment and burglary.
