Jose A. Panameno, 51, died after his car was hit by the car that Jackson was allegedly driving. Late Tuesday night, Jackson struck Panameno’s car on the driver’s side pinning it against a guard rail after losing control of the vehicle, according to a sheriff’s office release. Jackson got out of the car and ran into the woods, the sheriff’s office said. Panameno later died at a hospital.

Jackson was being pursued by Gwinnett County sheriff’s deputies before the crash, the sheriff’s office said. A license plate recognition camera identified the car that Jackson was allegedly driving as stolen. When a deputy tried to pull the car over, it sped away and soon crashed into Panameno’s car.

Jackson was apprehended by deputies and transported to the Gwinnett County Detention Center. He is being held without bond.

Jackson is also wanted by the East Point Police Department on a charge of failure to appear - obstruction, by the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office on a charge of failure to appear - burglary in the second degree, and the Cook County Sheriff’s Office on a charge of theft by taking.
