The price of gas in metro Atlanta has jumped 45 cents the past month, but don't expect it to keep rising at that pace.
AAA Auto Club South spokesman Gregg Laskoski said the recent surge was caused by refinery reductions, as well as crude and wholesale price increases driven by expectations of an economic recovery. Consumer demand remains weak, he said.
"Even the most bullish of analysts would have to expect the rate of price increases to slow down in coming weeks," Laskoski said. "All rallies come to an end."
In metro Atlanta, the average of price for a gallon of regular unleaded gas was $2.35 Sunday, up 45 cents from a month ago. The price was $3.97 a year ago.
"We still see consumer demand as very weak, and the supply of both gas and crude oil as very strong," Laskoski said. "It would be very far-fetched to expect the rate of increase to continue through June and July. The fundamentals that we see don't support that."
