Sugar Hill started installing six emergency warning sirens Thursday, hoping to provide maximum coverage to alert citizens of severe weather conditions.

The siren system will be connected to and automatically activated by the National Weather Service. Additionally, the system will send text messages, faxes and e-mail alerts to residents.

The first test of the sirens will take place between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Oct. 7. Residents will have a chance to ask questions about the system at a City Council meeting Oct. 10.
