A 19-year-old college student is the latest person arrested at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta for allegedly trying to carry a handgun through a security checkpoint, Channel 2 Action News reports.

Jamil Harrison, of Norcross, was booked into Clayton County Jail on Monday after airport security found a loaded Glock 20 handgun in his carry-on bag, authorities said.

Harrison was charged with carrying a weapon in an unauthorized location, a misdemeanor.

On Tuesday, Clayton Judge Beatriz Scott set Harrison’s bond at $5,000.

The student asked Scott at the court hearing to “lower my bond because I’m a student and I have to pay for student housing to move in,” but the judge said she could not entertain his request at this time, Channel 2 reported.

Harrison remained in custody at the county jail Tuesday evening, according to the Clayton County Sheriff's Office.

On July 26, two Georgia residents – a Smyrna man and a Mount Airy woman – were arrested within 20 minutes of each other for allegedly carrying handguns through Hartsfield-Jackson security.

The week before, a businessman from Midland was arrested at the airport after security discovered a handgun in his briefcase.

Airport security recently reported confiscating 15 guns in a two-month period. TSA authorities said offenders face fines of up to $10,000 for bringing a gun to the airport. They urged travelers to check their bags before arriving at a security checkpoint.
