Forsyth County officials have been reimbursed for the county’s response and recovery operations following the paralyzing mid-February ice storm.

The reimbursement from the state and federal emergency management agencies totaled $219,645.70 and covered costs for removing debris, providing emergency protection and handling damage to public buildings and vehicles.

County officials said a large part of the money covered personnel and equipment expenses related to clearing storm debris that fell onto county right-of-way. The money came out of an April presidential disaster declaration for Forsyth.

The National Weather Service said the Feb. 16 and 17 storm brought anywhere from a quarter to a half-inch of ice across the north and northeast part of the metro area, knocking power out to more than 200,000 customers.
