Douglas County police have identified a man killed Friday in an officer-involved shooting but cannot identify another man who died from a stab wound before the police shooting.

The incident began as a fight between two men between a QuikTrip gas station and a Zaxby's restaurant on Thornton Road, Sheriff Phil Miller said.

Deputies arrived after one man, identified by Douglas Coroner Randy Daniels as Leon Alfred, 23, of the Atlanta area, stabbed the other man. When the deputy asked the suspect to put down the knife, the man refused and moved toward the deputy, investigators said.

The deputy fired once, hitting the Alfred, and he later died, Channel 2 Action News confirmed.

The stabbing victim was transported to the hospital, where he died. The coroner said victim was a homeless person identified as "John Doe."
