A south Fulton County homeowner was tied up and pistol-whipped during a home invasion early Monday, police said.

The break-in happened around 2 a.m. at a home on Simon Street, in the Walden Park subdivision north of Union City.

"A neighbor called 911 when he heard a loud noise," Fulton police Det. Melissa Parker told the AJC. "He went outside and he saw that the neighbor across the street's door had been kicked in."

Parker said four men believed to be between the ages of 16 and 25 broke into the house, tied up the homeowner and threatened to rape a woman inside the house.

"When the officers arrived on the scene, they interrupted the home invasion and the [suspects] fled out the back," Parker said. "However, they had arrived in a white minivan and it was still running sitting in the middle of the street."

Inside the van, police found items that had already been loaded up from the home.

"They did pistol-whip the male, and he was transported to a local hospital," Parker said. The woman inside the home was not injured.

The robbers remained at large several hours after the incident. The condition of the homeowner was not immediately available.
