Authorities released a sketch Thursday of the suspect accused of trying to abduct a 12-year-old girl Monday afternoon in east Atlanta.

The incident occurred around 4:10 p.m. as the girl was walking in the area of Connecticut and New York avenues, Atlanta police said.

A driver in a silver SUV pulled up and asked her if she needed a ride. She declined and quickly walked away, then noticed the driver had put the vehicle in reverse and was trying to follow her, authorities said. The driver left when other vehicles approached the area.

The suspect is described as a black male in his early 30s, clean shaven and heavy set. He was wearing a white T-shirt and a baseball cap. He was driving a newer model silver compact SUV, possibly a Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4 or Ford Escape, police said.

Anyone with information on the case should call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477 or Atlanta police investigators at 404-546-4260.
