Odysseus has a long journey ahead of him — but the starved and abandoned mixed-breed boxer has already come a long way since being discovered chained to a tree outside an Atlanta church.
“He desperately wants love and it’s so evident in his sweet face,” Angels Among Us, the Alpharetta rescue group that’s helping save him, wrote on Facebook Monday night. “He’s a bit nervous at first when he meets someone but quickly warms up.”
Odysseus is believed to be about 2 years old, at which point boxers are generally considered adults and can weigh 70 or more pounds. When he was found, Odysseus weighed about 28.
He was described as a “skeleton.” A veterinarian gave him a 0.5 on a “body score” scale that goes up to 10.
Photos of the horrifically emaciated canine drew thousands of likes on Angels Among Us’ Facebook page, and prompted volunteer Nicole Uggerud to foster him. He’s now on a slow-and-steady feeding plan to get back to health.
Who abandoned him — and why — remains a mystery.
“This sweet boy still has a long road ahead of him,” Angels Among Us wrote on Facebook, “but his future is looking brighter than ever!”
